Human Curiosity & Connectedness Guide My Actions & Interests
Everything that I do is rooted in community. I strive to (re)connect people to the knowledge held by the lands, waters, and sky. My approach is grounded in the education and experience that I’ve gathered within the arts, culture and heritage sectors over the past three decades. I’m thankful to those who have shared their knowledge, guidance, and support.
I am an Anthropologist, Archaeologist, Museum Curator & Creator
I’ve worked with non-profit organizations, post-secondary academic institutions, and in the public and private sectors in the lands known today as British Columbia and Ontario. As a Settler Ally, I support and uplift Indigenous sovereignty and reclamation of ancestral ways of being, doing, knowing, and speaking.
Much of my work has centred around caring for and documenting ancestral cultural belongings (artifacts or treasures) collected during cultural resource management assessments and those held in public museums and repositories. I am passionate about working with communities to bring these belongings home and with organizations who want to return these belongings to their ancestral caretakers.
I am a Writer/Editor, Researcher, Project Manager, Professor & Photographer
Throughout my career, I’ve continued to grow my skills to support arts, culture, and heritage organizations and the projects that they develop and deliver. Most recently, this has included photographing ancestral belongings and cultural events, archiving them for the next generations.
Sharing the knowledge that I’ve accumulated through mentorship is one of my favourite tasks. This has previously involved:
Developing field and laboratory health and safety plans;
Reorganizing repository collections;
One-on-one training to research, clean and care for cedar baskets held in a public museum; and
The development and submission of project-specific grant applications.
I look forward to working with your community/organization to support arts, culture, and heritage resource needs.
